New Delhi: In a major cabinet reshuffle, the law portfolio of Kiren Rijiju has been assigned to Arjun Ram Meghwal, who is a BJP MP from Rajasthan. Kiren Rijiju has been assigned the portfolio of Ministry of Earth Sciences.
Union Minister Jitendra Singh was in charge of Ministry of Earth Sciences.
According to a statement issued by Rashtrapati Bhavan, President Draupadi Murmu has reallocated portfolios among ministers in the Union council of ministers, as advised by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“Meghwal, Minister of State, has been assigned the independent charge as Minister of State in the Ministry of Law and Justice in addition to his existing portfolios”, says statement issued by Rashtrapati Bhavan. He is currently the Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs and the Minister of State for Culture.
Arjun Ram Meghwal is a former IAS officer, who was re-elected from the Bikaner Parliamentary seat in Rajasthan as an MP for the third time. He is a prominent Scheduled Caste community leader. He resigned from the civil services to join politics.
From 2016-17, he served as Union Minister of State for Finance and Corporate Affairs. From 2017-19, he served as the Union Minister of State for Water Resources, River Development & Ganga Rejuvenation and Parliamentary Affairs. From 2019-2023, he has been the Union Minister of State for Heavy Industries & Public Enterprises and Parliamentary Affairs. He was awarded the best parliamentarian in 2013.
Shortly after the cabinet reshuffle, Kiren Rijiju has posted a tweet expressing his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud and all the judges and judicial officers of the country’s High Courts and lower judiciary.
