New Delhi: The CPI(M)’s love and support for China was fully visible in the editorial published on May 17th by the party’s official mouthpiece, People’s Democracy, after Quad leaders criticized the communist country without naming it. The editorial said that India was partnering with the United States to isolate China and this cannot be accepted.
It warned that India would not gain anything by weakening the trade and economic relations with the communist country. The editorial even went further to say that after Galwan incident the bilateral trade between India and China grew to $ 135.98 billion. It must be remembered that 20 Indian soldiers were martyred at Galwan.
The People’s Democracy also criticized India for allying with the US, which it says ‘had always intended the Quad to become a security alliance directed against China. The editorial also accused India of forming a military alliance with the United States in the Indo-Pacific area with the aim to contain China.
It added that India’s issue with China is a border dispute and it can be solved by diplomacy. The editorial was careful to downplay the role played by China in worsening its ties with India and escalating the border issue from time to time.
People’s Democracy has criticized India and supported China from time to time. CPI(M) General Secretary, Sitaram Yechury is the publisher of People’s Democracy while former General Secretary, Prakash Karat servers as the Chief Editor.
