Imphal: Union Home Minister, Amit Shah, will head to Manipur today for a three-day visit amidst the ongoing unrest in the state. It is reported that he will visit all the violent-hit places of the state. He will also have discussions with the Governor, Chief Minister and high officials of Manipur.
The Home Minister will also speak with the different ethnic groups, who are in confrontation with each other, and will try to restore peace in the region.
Minister of State for Home Affairs, Nityanand Rai, said that the recent unrest have blocked the development activities of the state. For the last nine years there were no bandhs or strikes and peace was maintained.
Niyanand Rai said that the people of the state must put their trust in the government and that all the issues will be resolved. He also asked the people to avoid resorting to violence.
Meanwhile, Chief of Army Staff, General Manoj Pandey, visited Manipur and took stock of the situation. The government believes that some tribal groups are trying to foment violence using modern weapons.
A security personnel was injured the other day in a night time attack at Imphal. Gun fights occurred in many regions. There is fear and anxiety whether this violence might lead to armed rebellion.
Chief Minister, N Biren Singh reported that forty terrorists have been killed till date.
