Imphal: During his visit to Manipur, Union Home Minister, Amit Shah, had appealed to the people to surrender their weapons. And he also warned of strict action against those who were in possession of weapons during combing operations of security forces. Now his warnings are getting paid off as 140 weapons have been surrendered at different places in State, said an ANI News report.
According to the report, the Manipur police informed that the surrendered weapons include SLR 29, Carbine, AK, INSAS Rifle, INSAS LMG, .303 Rifle, 9mm pistol, M16 Rifle, smoke gun and tear gas, local made pistol, stan gun, modified rifle, JVP and a grenade launcher.
The police also said that the situation is normal in most districts and curfew has been relaxed for 12 hours in Imphal West, Imphal Eash and Bishnupur. The curfew is lifted for 8 hours in Jiribam, 10 hours in Churachandpur and Chandel. Many other regions have also got relaxation in the curfew timings.
Amit Shah, during his visit, told the people of Manipur not to pay heed to rumours and to maintain peace. He also condoled the deaths in the violence and announced compensation for the next of kin.
