Washington: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has come under severe criticism from BJP leaders after he said that the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) is a secular party at a press conference in Washington. He was answering to a question on Congress party’s alliance with IUML in Kerala, when he made this strange observation.
Rahul Gandhi said, “Muslim League is a completely secular party, there is nothing non-secular about them.” The Congress leader also said that the person who raised the question do not know much about the IUML.
BJP leaders have criticized the Congress leader’s statement about IUML. Some BJP leaders say that Rahul Gandhi made this statement out of compulsion to remain acceptable in Wayanad, which has a huge Muslim population.
BJP leader from Kerala, Alphons Kannanthanam told ANI News that IUML obviously means that it is a party for the Muslims, there are no Hindus or Christians. There has never been and there will never be.
Alphons Kannanthanam also criticized the IUML for becoming completely silent on extremism, fundamentalism. Kerala has become the laboratory for ISIS and these people don’t say a word, reported ANI News.
The BJP leader also said that the problem with Rahul Gandhi is that he doesn’t have the capability to understand and advised the Congress leader to listen to other people and read things.
Reports say that Union Minister, Anurag Thakur, said that Rahul Gandhi and Congress sees Hindu terrorism but feels Muslim League is secular.
Rahul Gandhi is on a 10-day visit to the United States. At a meeting in San Francisco, the Congress leader degraded the Indian Parliament and the Sengol and called it as distraction and drama. Rahul Gandhi’s repeated insult at India and the country’s democracy on foreign soil has drawn sharp criticisms from many quarters.
