Imphal: A Border Security Force (BSF) jawan was martyred and two Assam rifles jawans got injured when suspected Kuki militants opened fire at BSF troops deployed at Serou Practical High School in Kakching district of Manipur, said a report.
The report says that the Kuki militants opened indiscriminate and heavy firing at BSF troops. The security forces returned fire. The BSF jawan was hit by a bullet which led to his death.
Manipur witnessed large scale riots between ethnic groups on the issue of granting Scheduled Tribe status to the majority Meitei ethnic group in Manipur.
Union Home Minister, Amit Shah, had visited the state and ordered probe into the riots. He had appealed to all sides to maintain peace and to surrender the weapons. Shah also warned that strict actions would be taken against those caught with weapons during combing operations by the security forces.
