Howrah: In a significant development, the Coromandel Express has commenced its operations, departing from Shalimar station in West Bengal on Wednesday. This marks the first time the train has resumed service since the devastating triple train tragedy that occurred in Balasore, Odisha, on June 2. The incident, which resulted in the loss of 288 lives, involved the Yeshwantpur-Howrah Superfast Express, the Shalimar-Chennai Coromandel Express, and a goods train.
The tragic accident took place when the Shalimar-Chennai Coromandel Express collided with a stationary freight train, causing multiple coaches to derail. The impact also affected the Howrah Express, which was en route from Yesvantpur. However, after the restoration of the railway track in Balasore, passenger train services were resumed in the district. On Monday, the Howrah-Puri Vande Bharat Express became the first passenger train to cross the restored track.
Now, with the Coromandel Express back on track, it signals a step towards recovery and the restoration of normalcy.
