Guwahati: In a tragic incident, a district-level functionary of BJP, was found murdered on June 11 in Goalpara district in Assam. The body of Jonali Nath was found dumped near the National Highway 17 in the Salpara area.
She was BJP’s District Secretary of Goalpara. Police say that Jonali Nath was killed by unidentified miscreants and her body dumped near National Highway 17. The locals discovered her body and informed the police.
The dead body had several injury marks indicating that she was assaulted before killing her.
It is reported that Jonali Nath was last seen in the Islampur area of the district on the evening of June 11. It is believed that she was having some discussions at a roadside hotel in Islampur before leaving.
The police have taken the hotel owner, Moqbul Hussain, in custody for questioning.
Eye witnesses say that Jonali Nath received several calls before leaving the place. SP Rakesh Reddy said that she was not sexually assaulted. She seems to have sustained several injury marks on her body including to her head.
Jonali Nath’s husband said that she attended a party meeting in the morning and returned home at 2.30 pm. She then left for Islampur at 4pm. She did not contact her family after that.
The BJP leader leaves behind two minor daughter and husband. Top police officials have rushed to the spot for proper investigation. BJP State President, Bhabesh Kalita condemned the heinous murder and urged the Government for a quick investigation and nab the culprits.
Spokesperson of Assam BJP, Jury Sharma Bordoloi, said that Jonali Nath was known for her unwavering commitment and tireless efforts.
