Chennai: Tamil Nadu BJP President, K Annamalai, has come down heavily against the state government for withdrawing the general consent for a CBI investigation in the state. The state government withdrew the consent just hours after the dramatic arrest of Minister Senthil Balaji by the Enforcement Directorate (ED).
Taking a dig at the Chief Minister, the BJP leader said that it seems like the Chief Minister is afraid that CBI will book him next.
K Annamalai in a tweet said, “It seems like TN CM is afraid that CBI will knock at his door soon and has taken an extraordinary measure in the curtailing of CBI in TN without the permission of the state government.”
Annamalai also reminded the BJP’s allegations against Chief Minister MK Stalin of Rs.200 crore that he had received as kickback for favouring a metro contract during the previous DMK regime.
The arrest of Senthil Balaji by ED follows allegations of corruption while he was minister in the AIADMK ministry. As transport minister he is said to have run a job racket scam. However, his dramatic arrest has raised a political row in Tamil Nadu.
A report said that the ED informed the court that Senthil Balaji did not cooperate with agency and shouted at the officers. The minister is sent to 14-days judicial custody. Senthil Balaji is in hospital after he complained of chest pain during ED interrogation. He is said to have triple vessel disease and is advised to undergo bypass surgery.
