New Delhi: Former Bihar Chief Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi and Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM) president Santosh Suman met with Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Delhi on Wednesday. This meeting took place barely two days after HAM declared its intention to resign from the incumbent coalition government led by Nitish Kumar.
Following the meeting, Manjhi informed reporters that they had submitted a letter to the state Governor, formally withdrawing their support from the current coalition government in Bihar. Santosh Suman, Manjhi’s son, had previously mentioned that they were open to various options and would consider discussions with the NDA if approached. They also expressed interest in exploring possibilities with the formation of a third front. They stated that a final decision would be shared with the public in the coming days.
HAM, led by Jitan Ram Manjhi, holds four seats in the 243-member Bihar Legislative Assembly. The party’s decision to withdraw support comes just before the scheduled meeting of opposition parties on June 23 in Patna. Nitish Kumar had been working on the groundwork for this gathering over the past several months. The meeting aims to address common issues and foster unity among opposition parties in preparation for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, where they plan to challenge the BJP.
