New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah has convened an all-party meeting on June 24 in New Delhi to discuss the situation in Manipur, which has witnessed sporadic violence since May 3.
In a Twitter post on Wednesday evening, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Home Affairs said, “Union Home Minister Shri @Amit Shah has convened an all-party meeting on 24th June at 3 pm in New Delhi to discuss the situation in Manipur.” The announcement came soon after the Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma met Shah in New Delhi.
Violent clashes broke out in Manipur after a ‘Tribal Solidarity March’ was organised in the hill districts on May 3 to protest against the Meitei community’s demand for Scheduled Tribes (ST) status. So far, nearly 120 people have lost their livea and over 3,000 are injured. Shah visited the state last month and held several rounds of meetings with representatives of both the Meitei and Kuki in a bid to end the cycle of violence.
