Recently, tensions broke out in Kolhapur after a WhatsApp status began circulating glorifying the Mughal ruler Aurangzeb. Tensions also spread in Ahmednagar when Muslim radicals supported Aurangzeb.
Mughal king Aurangzeb, a tyrannical ruler of the Mughal dynasty, is considered a strong supporter of Islam and had a dream of converting the whole of India into Islam during his lifetime. Hindus were persecuted under him and many were forced into conversion or put to death.
Like Tipu Sultan, Aurangzeb, is a controversial figure when it comes to their treatment of Hindus under their rule and elsewhere. Islamic fundamentalists make it a point of glorifying these rulers to sow fear in the minds of the majority population.
Lately, Maharashtra deputy CM, Devendra Fadnavis said that Muslisms in India are not descendants of Aurangzeb and that we only have one king and that is Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.
