New Delhi: Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar expressed his delight on Wednesday regarding the latest Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Ranking, which placed IIT Bombay in the 149th position. He hailed Indian universities as world-class, highlighting the significant progress made in the field of education under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
IIT Bombay achieved a remarkable feat by entering the top 150 universities worldwide in the recently released QS World University Ranking, as per an official statement by the institute. Nunzio Quacquarelli, the Founder and CEO of QS, congratulated IIT Bombay on its highest-ever ranking and noted that 45 Indian universities made it to this year’s rankings, which evaluated 2,900 institutions.
Speaking to the media, Chandrasekhar expressed his happiness over the fact that 45 Indian universities were included in this year’s QS World University Rankings. He attributed the transformation in the Indian education system to the visionary approach of Prime Minister Modi. Chandrasekhar emphasised that Indian universities are now on par with the best in the world, reducing the need for Indian students to seek education abroad. “Indian universities are world-class. Now less Indians will have to travel abroad for better education. Indian education is now not just good, it is amongst the world’s best,” he added.
The QS World University Rankings, an annual publication, provides global overall and subject rankings of universities. According to the official statement, IIT Bombay secured the top spot in India and made significant progress, moving up from 177th rank last year to 149th rank this year with an overall score of 51.7 out of 100. This marks the first time IIT Bombay has achieved a top-150 ranking in the QS rankings, showcasing a remarkable improvement of 23 places compared to the previous year.
The Union Minister also highlighted the high employer reputation associated with Indian universities, emphasising that they are viewed as the best in Asia. He credited PM Modi’s vision of empowering the youth through educational reforms as the driving force behind this recognition. This year’s QS World University Ranking included 45 Indian institutions for the first time.
Chandrasekhar took the opportunity to congratulate Chandigarh University for securing the 780th rank and becoming the top-performing Indian private university in the rankings. He expressed hope that the momentum gained from these achievements would continue in the future, with more Indian universities performing even better in the coming years.
