Lucknow: Congress plans for a ‘Mahagathbandan’ seems to be turning in to a flop show with BSP chief Mayawati declaring that her party will have no alliance with the Congress in any state for the Lok Sabha elections.
Congress, which is trying to forge a grand alliance of opposition parties to take on the BJP, has been facing hurdles after the initial euphoria.
BSP is in an alliance with its arch rival SP led by Akhilesh Yadav to counter the BJP in Uttar Pradesh. Congress found itself outside the BSP-SP alliance and was left with a concession – the BSP-SP alliance will not contest in Rae Bareli and Amethi seats.
After being rejected by the BSP-SP alliance the Congress was shunned by the Aam Aadmi Party in Delhi. AAP announced a few days back that they will go it alone in Delhi.
Mayawati’s formal refusal to partner with Congress has dashed hopes for the grand old party to muster a strong united opposition against Narendra Modi.
