Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan expressed his anguish over a video showing a tribal man, Dashmat Rawat, being urinated on and took immediate action to address the issue. Chouhan personally met Rawat at his official residence in Bhopal and washed his feet as a gesture of apology and respect.
The Chief Minister was seen in a video by news agency ANI applying tilak to Rawat’s forehead and garlanding him before washing his feet. Referring to Rawat as “Sudama,” Chouhan expressed that Rawat is his friend. He also had a conversation with Rawat, discussing various matters and ensuring that the state’s welfare schemes were reaching him, according to news reports. Prior to their meeting, the Chief Minister and Rawat planted a sapling together at the Smart City Park in Bhopal.
After the meeting, CM Chouhan expressed his empathy towards Rawat, stating, “My heart is filled with pain; Dashmat ji, this is an attempt to share your pain. Also, I apologise to you. For me, only people are god.”
The incident gained widespread attention when a video of the accused, Pravesh Shukla, urinating on Rawat went viral on social media. Taking immediate action, Chief Minister Shivraj Chouhan ordered strict measures, including invoking the National Security Act (NSA) against Shukla. The video, which was three months old but recently surfaced, caused political outrage in the state, with some Congress leaders spreading rumours surrounding it.
Pravesh Shukla was arrested in the early hours of Wednesday and booked under the NSA. The Sidhi Collector, Saket Malviya, issued an order for his detention, and he was subsequently sent to Central Jail Rewa. Additionally, the local administration demolished Shukla’s illegal construction on the same day.
