Mumbai: The Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed his grief at the tragic accident when a foot overbridge near the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus in South Mumbai collapsed killing 5 persons and injuring 36.
The PMs tweeted, “Deeply anguished by the loss of lives due to the foot overbridge accident in Mumbai. My thoughts are with the bereaved families. Wishing that the injured recover at the earliest. The Maharashtra Government is providing all possible assistance to those affected.”
According to reports, the incident occurred around 7.35 pm. The foot overbridge connected the railway station platform 1 North end with BT Lane.
Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis has announced Rs. 5 lakh compensation for the families of the deceased and Rs. 50,000 to those who suffered injuries.
