Mumbai: In a significant setback for Uddhav Thackeray, the chairperson of the Maharashtra Legislative Council, Dr. Neelam Gorhe, has joined the Shinde faction in the presence of Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis.
This development marks the second setback for Thackeray in a month, as MLC Manisha Kayande had previously joined the Shinde camp. In response to her shift, the Uddhav Thackeray-led party dismissed her as party spokesperson for alleged anti-party activities.
Dr. Neelam Gorhe expressed her decision to work with Eknath Shinde under the guidance of Devendra Fadnavis on women’s development as well as the progress of Maharashtra and the country. She stated that the Shiv Sena, under the leadership of Eknath Shinde, is on the right path. Gorhe, who had joined the Shiv Sena in 1998, mentioned that the Supreme Court has recognised the Shiv Sena under the leadership of Eknath Shinde as the official Sena.
When questioned about the alleged unhappiness of women party leaders regarding the entry of Sushma Andhare, Gorhe denied any such issue. Eknath Shinde characterised Gorhe’s entry as historic and highlighted the presence of Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis and other party leaders to welcome her into the party. Shinde further emphasised that Gorhe’s entry demonstrates the strength of the BJP-Shiv Sena alliance. He disregarded the criticism from those who could not accept their decision.
