Kolkata: Reports say that several people have been killed in violence in West Bengal during panchayat elections in the state. The polling had begun at 7 am to the 73,887 seats in the rural areas. 2.06 lakh candidates are in the fray.
Reports say that a BJP polling agent, Madhab Biswas, was killed in Choochbehar district. BJP authorities said that he was killed by TMC goons after he was stopped from entering the polling booth.
BJP State President Sukanta Majumdar tweeted, “Bloodshed in West Bengal in Panchayat Election. TMC candidate killed an independent Muslim candidate in North 24 Parganas district. TMC knows only language of violence, murder and booth capturing. CM @MamataOfficial along with @CEO WestBengal is responsible for these murders.”
He also shared a video claiming that TMC workers have looted the ballot boxes from many polling booths in the state.
The ruling TMC alleges that three of its workers were also killed in the violence that gripped the state on election day.
A supporter of an independent candidate in North 24 Paraganas was also killed after he was assaulted last night. The deceased is identified as Abdullah.
The brother of a TMC leader was killed in Malda District after a clash with Congress supporters.
There are allegations of looting ballot boxes and attack on voters.
Governor CV Ananda Bose visited parts of North 24 Parganas district and interacted with the people.
