Wayanad: Wayanad became an orphan after Rahul Gandhi was disqualified from the position of MP. Wayanad is unable to bring up development initiatives and other requests in the Lok Sabha since Rahul Gandhi lost his MP status. Rahul Gandhi, who won in Wayanad constituency with a large margin had made huge promises and announcements for the development of Waynad and welfare of its people. But now, he has just turned his back at Wayanad. BJP is therefore preparing to launch an open protest. Rahul Gandhi had lost his position as an MP after losing a defamation case against him in Gujarat.
There is now no MP representing Kerala’s underdeveloped Wayanad district in the Lok Sabha. As a result, the people of Wayanad are experiencing an impossible situation where they are unable to present or discuss the district’s development demands as well as other issues before the Lok Sabha. The Wayanad residents as well as the opposition political parties intend to launch an agitation against Rahul Gandhi and the Congress, who are to blame for this predicament.
The Congress leadership introduced Rahul Gandhi in Wayanad ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections after making significant development commitments to the populace. This is why the BJP needs an explanation from the Congress and Rahul Gandhi, who made it such there isn’t an MP in the area.
In 2019, Rahul Gandhi poked fun at Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a Lok Sabha campaign rally, in Kolar, Karnataka. “How come all the thieves have Modi as the common surname?” the leader had questioned. Purnesh Modi, a member of the BJP and a former minister in Gujarat, launched a criminal defamation case against the Congress leader on this basis, alleging that his remark defamed the whole Modi community. Gandhi later stated that when he made the controversial statement, he did not do so with the intention of intentionally maligning any community.
On the basis of the standard procedure used in all criminal defamation cases, the matter was then brought to the session’s court. On March 23, the lower court used sections 499 and 500 (defamation) of the Indian Penal Code to sentence the Congress leader to two years in prison. He was then granted bail but lost his position as MP.
