New Delhi: On Wednesday, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) made a significant arrest in the Bihar case related to the banned Popular Front of India (PFI). Yaqub Kahan alias Sultan Alias Usman, aged 22 and a resident of East Champaran district in Bihar, was apprehended as the 15th prime accused in the case. The charges against him pertain to his involvement in unlawful and anti-national activities associated with PFI cadres and members.
The NIA had previously detained 14 other suspects in connection with the same case and seized numerous incriminating items and documents related to their activities. On January 7 of this year, four accused were charge-sheeted in the case.
NIA investigations have revealed that Yaqub Khan held the position of an expert arms trainer within the PFI. He was responsible for conducting multiple training sessions, furthering the group’s aggressive and violent agenda.
“Yaqub had arranged arms and ammunition to attack a youth from a particular community in order to wreak revenge and whip up communal hatred. He has also uploaded controversial videos on social media to promote enmity among the communities,” said the NIA.
After the raid and search of PFI syndicate members’ residences in early February this year, Yaqub went into hiding. However, he was eventually apprehended by the NIA. The agency is currently examining the seized SIM cards and mobile phones of Yaqub for potential leads in the case.
NIA investigations have further revealed that despite its ban, the PFI continues to advocate and engage in its toxic and communal agenda, ideology, and activities. The initial First Information Report was filed on July 20 of the previous year at Phulwarisharif Police Station in Bihar’s Patna district. Later, on July 22 of the same year, the NIA took over the case.
