New Delhi: Union Minister Anurag Thakur criticised the Ashok Gehlot-led government in Rajasthan, highlighting the surge in crime against women in the state, making it the number one in such cases over the past five years.
In response to Chief Minister Gehlot’s press conference, where he criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for not visiting Manipur after a distressing incident involving the assault of two women went viral, Thakur accused Rajasthan of failing to ensure safety for women.
“Where has Rajasthan reached in the last five years? There have been so many incidents of rape and atrocities against women that a peaceful and safe state has become number one in terms of crime against women in the last five years.” Thakur said.
Thakur addressed the media at the Bharatiya Janata Party headquarters in the national capital, stating, “A total of 1.09 lakh incidents of crime against women happened in the state in the last four years, and 22 percent of rape cases in India are from Rajasthan.”
Thakur also slammed Gehlot for removing Minister of State Rajendra Singh Gudha from the Council of Ministers after he criticised his own government for the atrocities against women in the poll-bound state. He also asked why the Opposition was silent on crimes in West Bengal, Bihar, and Rajasthan. The BJP has also targeted Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for failing to provide security for women.
