Bengaluru: Madan Das Devi, a veteran Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) leader, and former joint secretary of the organization, passed away on Monday morning.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief over the demise of senior RSS leader Madan Das Devi. Modi said in a tweet that Madan Das Devi dedicated his life to the service of the nation. PM also recalled his deep personal association with the departed leader and said that he learnt a lot from him.

Madan Das Devi played a crucial role in nurturing leadership skills among prominent BJP and RSS leaders. A dedicated Pracharak (campaigner), he had been residing in Bengaluru, receiving treatment for age-related health concerns.

“Devi had served as the RSS joint general secretary and organisation secretary of the RSS’ student wing Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP). He was responsible for developing leadership skills among the national level top rung BJP leaders you see today,” said an RSS functionary.

BJP state president K. Surendran has condoled the death of Madan Das Deviji. He said, “The demise of Madandasji, who was a senior ‘Pracharak’ (campaigner), is a great loss to the nation. He instilled patriotism in the students and youth and created a new oriented leadership for the country. Madandas ji played a big role in making Vidyarthi Parishad the largest student organization in the world.”

The 81-year-old Hindutva ideologue, originally from Maharashtra, breathed his last at the Rashtrotthana Hospital after battling a prolonged illness. His mortal remains will be placed at the RSS local headquarters, Keshava Kripa, from 1.30 pm to 4 pm before being transported to Pune for the final rites on Tuesday.
