New Delhi: Anil Antony, the son of veteran Congress leader and former Union minister AK Antony, was recently appointed as the national general secretary of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). In response to his new role, Anil expressed his commitment to furthering the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and achieving India’s development as a developed nation by its centenary year of independence in 2047.
Speaking to ANI, the newly-appointed BJP leader discussed his responsibilities and the challenges ahead, especially with five states heading for polls and the Lok Sabha elections next year. He expressed his gratitude to the party leadership, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Amit Shah, and JP Nadda, for their support and confidence in him.
Anil Antony highlighted the significance of the current year and emphasised the party’s collective efforts to secure a more substantial mandate in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections compared to the victories in 2014 and 2019.
Anil Antony took to X (formerly Twitter) to announce his resignation, where he humorously mocked the Congress party for ironically making intolerant demands. He revealed that he received calls pressuring him to delete a tweet that supported PM Modi during the controversy surrounding the documentary series. The irony was evident as those pressuring him claimed to be advocates of free speech.
Having previously served as a team coordinator for the social media team of the Kerala Congress, Anil expressed his determination to strengthen and broaden the party’s vote base and influence in his home state. Kerala is currently governed by the Left, and he intends to work towards expanding the party’s reach ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
The BJP recently released a revised list of its central office-bearers, appointing Anil Antony and others as national general secretaries, along with vice presidents and secretaries. This move comes as the party prepares for assembly elections in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Telangana, and Mizoram.
