New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised India’s rapid progress in its technological journey, celebrating the remarkable achievement of achieving the fastest 5G rollout services in just 10 months since their launch. Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw shared on X (formerly known as Twitter) that more than 3 lakh 5G mobile sites have been established within this time frame, and the installation continues. These sites are now operational across 714 districts in various states. The 5G services were initiated on October 1, 2022, with 1 lakh sites established within 5 months and another 2 lakh sites within 8 months. Vaishnaw described India’s 5G rollout as the “world’s second-largest 5G ecosystem.”
Responding to the social media posts by the BJP minister, PM Modi commended India’s advancement in digital connectivity. He highlighted that the rapid deployment of 5G underscores the government’s commitment to bringing cutting-edge technology to every corner of the country, fostering transformative changes, and driving progress.

Earlier this year, Prime Minister Modi launched the 5G service, aimed at delivering seamless coverage, high data rates, low latency, and highly reliable communications. The technology will enhance energy efficiency, spectrum efficiency, and network efficiency.
During the third edition of the Republic Summit in April 2023, PM Modi emphasised the swift pace of India’s 5G rollout, noting that the world had taken notice of this achievement. He also shared his recollections of how people used to mock him when he mentioned that the bank would be at his fingertips. Today, digital payments are commonplace, from local tea stalls to food vendors.
The advent of 5G technology holds substantial benefits for the general population. It will enable seamless coverage, high data rates, low latency, and dependable communications. Additionally, it will boost energy efficiency, spectrum efficiency, and network efficiency. 5G will facilitate connectivity for billions of Internet of Things devices, support high-quality video services with swift mobility, and facilitate critical services such as tele-surgery and autonomous vehicles, among others. This technology will empower real-time disaster monitoring and precision agriculture and minimise human involvement in hazardous industrial operations like deep mines and offshore activities. Unlike existing mobile communication networks, 5G networks can be tailored to meet diverse use cases within the same network infrastructure.
