Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate a significant initiative on Sunday, via video conferencing, as he lays the foundation stone for the redevelopment of 508 railway stations across the nation. The Prime Minister’s Office has confirmed this pivotal step in enhancing the country’s transportation infrastructure.
PM Modi has often laid stress on the provision of state-of-the-art public transport. Recognising the railways as the predominant mode of travel for people throughout the country, he has emphasised the necessity of elevating railway stations to provide world-class facilities and services.
This transformative endeavour falls under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, aimed at the comprehensive redevelopment of 1309 stations across India. The forthcoming event signifies the commencement of redevelopment efforts for 508 of these stations, representing a substantial financial commitment exceeding Rs 24,470 crore.
Master Plans are being prepared for the development of these stations as ‘City Centres’, with proper integration of both sides of the city. This integrated approach is driven by the holistic vision of the urban development of the city, centered around the railway station.
The redevelopment will provide modern passenger amenities along with ensuring well-designed traffic circulation, inter-model integration, and well-designed signage for the guidance of passengers. The design of the station buildings will be inspired by local culture, heritage and architecture.
