New Delhi: India is currently engaged in the construction of the world’s highest tunnel, motorable road, and fighter jet base in Eastern Ladakh. This strategic development serves the dual purpose of bolstering both military and civilian capabilities in the region.
According to Lt General Rajeev Choudhary, the head of the Border Roads Organization (BRO), the organization is poised to surpass its own achievement of constructing the highest road at Umlong La Pass, achieved two years ago. This achievement will be outdone in the coming two working seasons with the forthcoming completion of the Mig La-Fukche road.
Choudhary also disclosed that the world’s highest bi-lane tunnel, named Sela, has been completed and is poised for dedication to the nation. The inauguration of this tunnel is anticipated in the near future and will be graced by the Prime Minister.
In addition to these feats, the BRO is set to embark on the construction of the Shinku La tunnel, which will link Manali to Leh via Zanskar. This tunnel is set to break the record held by China’s MiLa tunnel, making it the highest of its kind.
Addressing inquiries about the Nyoma airfield, located just 30 kilometres away in Eastern Ladakh, Choudhary affirmed that the airfield, equipped for fighter aircraft operations, is on track to be operational by the conclusion of the upcoming year.
