New Delhi: India’s Union Minister for Road and Transport, Nitin Gadkari, has unveiled a remarkable achievement in engineering: the first-of-its-kind Dwarka Expressway, an eight-lane marvel. Gadkari proudly shared a video showcasing the expressway’s exceptional construction through his official X (formerly Twitter) account.
The Dwarka Expressway stretches over 563 kilometres and is divided into four distinct sections. It originates at Shiv Murthy on National Highway 8 and concludes at the Kherki Daula Toll Plaza in Gurugram. This groundbreaking project is notable for its transplantation of 1,200 trees, setting a precedent in Indian infrastructure development.

As it enters its final stages of construction, the Dwarka Motorway promises to significantly enhance connectivity between Delhi and Haryana. Commute times will be drastically reduced, with travel from Dwarka to Manesar taking just 15 minutes and the journey from Manesar to Indira Gandhi International Airport taking only 20 minutes. Moreover, travel durations from Dwarka to the Singhu border will be 25 minutes and from Manesar to the Singhu border 45 minutes, as illustrated in the transport minister’s shared video. Additionally, the project will improve access to the International Convention Centre at Dwarka.
The expressway features three-lane service roads flanking each side, complete with strategically placed entry points to prevent traffic congestion. Impressively, the construction employed an astounding two lakh tonnes of steel, a quantity surpassing the steel used in the iconic Eiffel Tower by over 30 times. To further emphasise its scale, the project utilised an astounding 20 lakh cubic metres of cement concrete, six times more than the quantity used for the construction of the Burj Khalifa.
