New Delhi: In preparation for the upcoming G20 summit, the government of New Delhi has announced a three-day public holiday from September 8 to 10. This decision encompasses government offices, private establishments, schools, and financial institutions, including banks. The move aims to facilitate the smooth conduct of the high-profile international event and mitigate potential logistical challenges.

In recognition of the significance of the G20 summit, the Special Commissioner of Delhi Police penned a letter to the Chief Secretary advocating for the declaration of September 8–10 as official holidays. The Delhi government swiftly endorsed this recommendation, issuing directives to all institutions to observe these days as non-working days.

Scheduled for September 9 and 10, the G20 summit will assemble leaders from diverse developed and developing nations, converging in New Delhi to discuss pressing global issues. Prominent figures, including US President Joe Biden, are set to participate in the conference, underscoring the summit’s importance as a platform for dialogue and collaboration among influential world leaders.

The decision to declare a public holiday during the summit arises from the anticipation of potential traffic congestion and logistical complexities associated with accommodating the influx of high-level attendees. By suspending regular activities across the city, authorities aim to alleviate these challenges and ensure a seamless experience for both delegates and citizens.

The G20 summit is poised to take place at the prestigious Pragati Maidan in New Delhi. This expansive venue boasts a remarkable seating capacity of 7,000 individuals, surpassing renowned landmarks like Australia’s iconic Sydney Opera House, which accommodates 5,500 visitors. Its selection as the G20 summit site underscores its suitability for hosting large-scale international gatherings.
