New Delhi: The Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has warned against direct and indirect advertisements related to betting or gambling. Media organizations, online advertising intermediaries and social media platforms are directed to refrain from publishing all types of advertising, such promotion and promotional content. It has been explicitly communicated that failure to comply with these guidelines may result in punitive measures taken by the central government in accordance with relevant regulations.
The ministry pointed out that the advertisements of gambling or betting platforms create huge potential for socio-economic risk among youth and children. The central government had taken action against the agent network that collected money from the users of such apps. The Ministry stated that these are linked to money laundering network and will pose a challenge to the financial security of the country.
The Ministry further acknowledges the escalating trend of promoting betting platforms, particularly in connection with cricket. Given this circumstance, a strict directive has been issued, specifically prohibiting the broadcasting of such advertisements targeted at the Indian audience.
