New Delhi: Russian Ambassador to India, Denis Alipov, said that his country will soon deliver the much awaited S-400 anti-aircraft missile system on scheduled time to India by end of next year. The S-400 anti-aircraft missile system is set to bolster the military prowess of India and will be able to counter the threat posed by neighboring countries more effectively.
Denis Alipov revealed, “As far as the S-400 deliveries are concerned, they have going on track and the chiefs of the Russian companies involved in those supplies have come on record confirming the supplies will be concluded in time and according to the schedule mutually agreed with our Indian partners. We are speaking about the completion of deliveries by the end of next year.”
S-400 anti-aircraft and missile system or S-400 Triumph is a surface-to-air missile system developed by Russia. The S-400 is able to intercept cruise missiles and also hit ground targets.
India had signed a $5 billion deal with Russia to buy five units of S-400 from Russia in October, 2018. However, the then Trump administration had warned India that the US will impose sanctions if India buys the anti-aircraft missile system from its arch enemy, Russia.
However, Indian leadership made it clear that India was following an independent foreign policy and it decision to buy the defense equipment was in alignment with the country’s national security interests.
The United States now considers India as one of its closest allies and also a bulwark against the rising Chinese threat. This has prompted the United States not to jump the gun on India purchasing the S-400 from Russia. It must be noted that the US took a tough stand against Turkey and imposed sanctions on the country for buying S-400 from Russia.
