Washington: According to the latest survey conducted by the PEW Research Center, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is experiencing a notable surge in popularity among Indians, with approximately 80% expressing a favorable perspective on his leadership. The survey, spanning from February 20 to May 22, engaged 30,861 adults across 24 countries, including India. Alongside assessing global perceptions of PM Modi, the survey delved into India’s evolving international influence and its citizens’ viewpoints on other nations.
The survey findings, released on Tuesday, reveal that nearly eight out of ten Indians hold a “favorable” view on PM Modi, with a significant majority (55%) holding a “very favorable” view. The survey coincides with Narendra Modi’s second term as Prime Minister, as he also eyes a potential third term in the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Conversely, only a fifth of Indians expressed a negative opinion of PM Modi in 2023, as indicated by the PEW survey.
In addition to PM Modi’s robust favorability, the survey, released ahead of the G20 Summit, highlighted India’s overall positive global image with 46% of respondents worldwide expressing a favorable view of the country, compared to 34% who held an unfavorable view. Notably, 71% of respondents in Israel conveyed a favorable perception of India, marking the highest positive sentiment towards India among the surveyed nations.
Responding to the results of the PEW survey, the BJP said the popularity of Prime Minister Modi remained intact.
