Bhopal: In a move that will excite the BJP camp, Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur is all set to contest from Bhopal against senior Congress leader Digvijay Singh.

The saffron clad sanyasin said that she is confident of defeating Congress warhorse, Digvijay Singh, who is a Rajya Sabha MP and two-time Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh.

Sadhvi Pragya had joined the BJP on Tuesday and met senior BJP leaders earlier today. She had met Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Ramlal, Anil Jain, Narottam Mishra, and Prabhat Jha at the BJP State office in Bhopal.

BJP announced her candidature soon after the meetings.

The firebrand leader said, “After spending 10 years in jail due to Congress conspiracy, I have come here to fight the political and religious war. ”

Sadhvi Pragya Singh was arrested in 2008 and jailed for ten gruesome years behind bars. Though, the National Investigation Agency, gave her a clean chit in 2015, the trial court refused to grant her freedom. She was granted bail in 2017.

She has rejected all the allegations made against her and dubbed it as a “Congress conspiracy”. The BJP accuses the grand old party for dragging her name into the case to create the “Hindu Terror” narrative.

The sanyasin claims that she was tortured continuously by Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) and also by the state police.

She has accused the police for beating her with leather belts through the nights, starved her for 24 days, gave her electric shocks, verbally abused her, and even made her listen to pornographic materials with male undertrials.

Sadhvi Pragya, a post-graduate in history, was active with RSS’s student wing, Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad and also with Durga Vahini. She has been associated with the RSS from an early age.
