New Delhi: Senior Congress leader and Chief Minister of Rajasthan, Ashok Gehlot, has insulted the Indian President, Ram Nath Kovind. Taking note of the statement, the BJP has issued a strong demand for apology from the Congress leader.
The Chief Minister had said that Ram Nath Kovind was selected for the top post because of his caste. The controversial statement was done earlier today.
Ashok Gehlot said, “Ramnath Kovindji was made the President keeping in mind the caste equations ahead of the Gujarat Assembly elections. This is why Advanji was left behind.”
Reacting to the Congress leader’s remarks, the BJP spokesperson, G.V.L. Narasimha Rao, said, “We demand an apology from the Congress leader Ashok Gehlot for his comment that Kovind was made President because of his caste.”
The BJP spokesperson added that the Congress leader’s remark was “anti-Dalit, anti-poor, anti-people, and anti-constitution”. He also urged the Election Commission (EC) to take strict action against the Congress leader.
He added, “We appeal to the EC to serve a notice to Gehlot. Force him to apologize. And give a directive that no political party should make any critical comments against Honourable President of India. Congress is guilty of bringing disrepute to our democracy.”
BJP spokesperson Narashima Rao also lashed out against Congress President Rahul Gandhi’s statement on Monday asking how come all “thieves” have Modi as their surname.
Narashima Rao remarked that Rahul Gandhi’s statement showed that the Congress party was intolerant to the poor and certain socially deprived communities.
The BJP spokesperson asked why the Congress was opposed to social empowerment and reminded that the President and Prime Minister were both from poor and low caste families. He claimed that India is going through a period of renaissance when the top functionaries of the government including PM and the President hail from socially backward communities.
