Jakarta: Prime Minister Narendra Modi participated in the 20th ASEAN-India Summit in Jakarta on Thursday and called the summit as a central pillar of India’s Act East policy. During his address at the event, PM Modi expressed India’s support for ASEAN’s Indo-Pacific perspective, emphasising the enduring partnership between India and ASEAN as it enters its fourth decade, with ASEAN occupying a prominent position within India’s Indo-Pacific strategy.
“India supports ASEAN’s outlook on Indo-Pacific. While our partnership enters fourth decade, ASEAN occupies prominent place in India’s Indo-Pacific initiative,” PM Modi said.
Mr. Modi lauded ASEAN as the focal point of global growth, underscoring its crucial role in global development. He noted that despite the prevailing global uncertainties, there has been consistent progress in the mutual cooperation between India and ASEAN.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Indonesia on Thursday morning to participate in the ASEAN-India and East Asia summits. His visit aims to discuss the future direction of India’s partnerships with countries in this strategically vital region.
“Landed in Jakarta. Looking forward to the ASEAN related meetings and to working with various leaders for making a better planet,” Mr. Modi posted on social media platform X (formerly Twitter).
Ahead of his departure from New Delhi, Mr. Modi said that the comprehensive strategic partnership between India and the ASEAN has injected new dynamism into the group’s ties with New Delhi.
Following the summit meetings, Prime Minister Modi will return to Delhi, where India is set to host the G20 Summit on September 9 and 10.
