Agartala: In the recent bypolls held on September 5th in Tripura, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) secured victories in both the Boxanagar and Dhanpur assembly seats. The vote counting took place on Friday, resulting in the BJP’s triumph in these key constituencies.
In a head-to-head contest, the ruling BJP faced off against the Communist Party of India (Marxist), as the TIPRA Motha and the Congress, two other opposition parties, chose not to field their candidates. The BJP nominated Tafajjal Hossain and Bindu Debnath as their candidates for the Boxanagar and Dhanpur seats, respectively. Meanwhile, the CPI(M) put forward Mizan Hossain for Boxanagar and Kaushik Chanda for Dhanpur.
The Boxanagar bypoll was necessitated due to the demise of the sitting CPI(M) legislator, Samsul Haque, whereas in Dhanpur, Union Minister Pratima Bhoumik, who had previously contested the state assembly elections earlier in the year, resigned from her seat shortly after winning the election.
