WAYANAD: Wayanad MP and Congress party leader Rahul Gandhi has argued that changing the name of the country to Bharat is not acceptable, as he believes it denies the country’s history. Rahul stated that India’s name is being changed because the opposition alliance has been named I.N.D.I.A. He also argued that the name ‘Bharat’ is being proposed so that the nation’s history is obscured for future generations.
Rahul voiced his opposition to the idea of changing the name while attending Sciences Po in Paris, France. The Constitution of India uses both names, India and Bharat, and both are perfectly acceptable. Rahul accused the BJP of attempting to keep future generations ignorant of the country’s history.
He explained that the name of their alliance is I.N.D.I.A., which has provoked the central government into considering the name change. Rahul then accused the central government of threatening Indian citizens, citing 24 cases registered against him, and he also accused the BJP of spreading hatred.
