New Delhi: In a shocking revelation, BJP leader, Subramanian Swamy, revealed that during UPA-2 the then Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh and former Congress President, Sonia Gandhi, had met leaders of the National Thowheed Jamath (NTJ), which is now accused to be behind the terror attacks in Sri Lanka that killed 390 people and scores injured.

Subramanian Swamy has also given evidence about the meeting between Congress top leadership and the leaders of the terror outfit.

The Congress leaders had met the Tamil Nadu unit of NTJ during the second term of Congress-led UPA rule on 8 July, 2010. They had met the President of NTJ’s Tamil Nadu unit, Moulavi P. Saiunlabhin and his team for about half an hour.

The NTJ leaders met Sonia Gandhi and Manmohan Singh in Delhi.

According to reports, the NTJ is believed to have helped the Islamic State carry out the worst terrorist attack in Sri Lanka in recent years. Their connections with the deadly IS brings out the extent of the NTJ’s reach and destructive nature.

NTJ has been active in Tamil Nadu since 2003 and they have around 800 branches in the state till now. In 2017, the organization was booked for forcing many Christians to convert into Islam.

Sri Lankan security officials said that the country has banned the terror organization for their involvement in the terror attacks.

Meanwhile, following the terror attacks, a bill to ban the burqa in Sri Lanka is on the cards. Countries like France, Italy, Switzerland, and Spain had banned the traditional Muslim woman’s outfit following terror attacks in many European countries.
