New Delhi: The Supreme Court today ordered an investigation headed by former judge, Justice A. K. Patnaik into the alleged conspiracy against Chief Justice of India, Ranjan Gogoi, accused in a sexual harassment case.

The apex court also ordered Directors of Central Bureau of Investigations and Intelligence Bureau and the Police Commissioner is expected to cooperate with Justice Patnaik on the probe as and when required.

The order comes after hearing an affidavit submitted by Advocate Utsav Bains who alleged that there is a conspiracy behind the sexual harassment case filed against the Chief Justice.

The apex court directed Justice Patnaik that once the probe is over, the report should be submitted to the court in a sealed cover. The inquiry will in no way affect the proceedings of the court.

Supreme Court also ordered advocate Bains to handover all documents concerning the conspiracy. Earlier, Bains had said that certain people approached him with an offer to trap the Chief Justice in a sexual harassment case. He said that the group offered him Rs. 1.5 crore for the job.

Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi is accused of sexual harassment by a former staff of the Supreme Court who worked as a junior assistant. The victim alleges that after the harassment that occurred between May 2014 and December 2018, she was terminated from her job. She says that a false FIR is registered against her and her family after she was fired from her job.
