New Delhi: Certain people, envious of the remarkable achievements of Chandrayaan-3, attempted to spread false information alleging that the individuals involved in the project had not been compensated. This fake news was released by the anti-national media, B B.C, exclusively through their Hindi edition. The Press Information Bureau has officially confirmed that their report is completely fake.
The BBC reported that Deepak Kumar, a technician at HEC (Heavy Engineering Corporation Limited), who is claimed to have worked for building Chandrayaan-3’s launch pad was selling idlis at a roadside stall in Ranchi, capital of Jharkhand, to make ends meet. Deepak Kumar was quoted by the BBC as saying that HEC, which built Chandrayaan’s folding platform and sliding door, had not paid him for 18 months.
The fact check unit of the Press Information Bureau said the headline of the BBC article was misleading. Minister of State for Heavy Industries Krishan Pal Gurjar had told Parliament that HEC was not entrusted with the manufacturing of any components for Chandrayaan-3 and that between 2003 and 2010 the firm did only some basic work. Most of the national media dismissed the news after realizing that the BBC’s report was a hoax. But some Malayalam media reported the news.
HEC is a company facing lot of problems due to over-interference by labor unions. The reality is that the company does not manufacture rocket launch pad or anything for that matter. While the central government maintains a shareholding, it is important to note that the compensation of the employees is not within the purview of the central government. Public sector entities operate independently, generating profits and autonomously managing their payroll obligations.
