New Delhi: The External Affairs Ministry has given advisory to citizens of Bharat living in Canada amid rising tensions between Bharat and Canada. According to the advisory, citizens of Bharat living in Canada and students studying there are asked to maintain caution.
The advisory was released pointing to anti-Bharat activities rising in Canada and the rising incidents of attacks against Bharat citizens in that country.
The External Affairs Ministry has asked citizens of Bharat and students to register at the websites or portals of the Indian High Commission in Ottawa, and Consulates in Vancouver and Toronto.
In the statement issued by the External Affairs Ministry, the threats in Canada are mainly aimed against diplomats and those who are opposing anti-Bharat activities.
The other day, Canada had issued a similar advisory to its citizens residing in Bharat. The warning was given to Canadian citizens travelling through regions of Kashmir, Punjab, and Rajasthan.
The recent spat between Bharat and Canada arose after Canadian Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, in an address at the Parliament of Canada alleged that Bharat was responsible behind the killing of Khalistani leader, Hardeep Singh Nijjar. Bharat came out strongly against these statements and demanded that Trudeau withdraw his baseless allegations.
After Bharat strengthened its position against Canada, Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, came out with an explanation. He said that it was never his intention to antagonize Bharat and his statement was meant to give the seriousness of the issue. Trudeau’s effort to lighten the issue comes after protests were raised against his statements from within Canada coupled with government of Bharat’s strong condemnation of the Prime Minister’s statement.
