NEW DELHI: The Health Ministry directed the National Medical Commission (NMC) on Wednesday, September 20th, to reduce the qualifying percentile for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET)-Post Graduate (PG) 2023 to “zero” for all categories. This move provides a great relief to aspirants for postgraduate medical studies this year, allowing eligible medical students to modify their choices after the percentile reduction.
In the letter, the Health Ministry stated that it had considered the recommendation for reducing the qualifying percentile for postgraduate courses in 2023 (NEET PG 2023), and the approval of the competent authority is hereby conveyed for reducing the qualifying percentile for NEET PG 2023 to ‘Zero’ across all categories.
Dr. Harish Gupta, a member of the Delhi Medical Council, commented that this decision aims to fill all clinical and non-clinical seats, ensuring that, unlike previous years, no seats remain unfilled. He emphasized that all postgraduate seats will be allocated following NEET-PG counseling norms, with no compromise on the quality of medical education.
Previously, the Indian Medical Association had also written to the Health Ministry, requesting a reduction in the cut-off marks for the NEET PG 2023 exam. They argued that this would enable a significant number of aspiring doctors to enroll in postgraduate programs across various medical colleges in the country, ensuring that no postgraduate seats go vacant.
