NEW DELHI: The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has extended the deadline for depositing and exchanging Rs 2,000 denomination banknotes to October 7, 2023.
In an earlier circular on May 19, the RBI stated that Rs 2,000 currency notes must be exchanged by September 30, 2023.
On September 29, the RBI reported that it had collected Rs 3.42 lakh crore worth of Rs 2,000 currency notes since it issued its circular on May 19, announcing the withdrawal of these currency notes from circulation.
It also noted that Rs 0.14 lakh crore worth of the Rs 2,000 denomination currency notes are still in circulation.
