Lucknow: The fifth and relatively the smallest phase of polling is progressing in 51 constituencies of seven states. Voting started at 7 in the morning and Union Minister Rajnath Singh reached the polling booth in Lucknow at 7.30 to cast his vote. The Home Minister is seeking re election in Lucknow. He responded to medias after casting his vote. “I can’t predict anything, I leave the decision to the voters in Lucknow,” he said. “The people have the full right to choose who they want. In any case, Prime Minister Modi will become PM again,” said Rajnath Singh.
Poonam Singh, the Samajwadi – BSP alliance candidate is the prime rival of Rajnath Singh. Poonam, wife of Shathrughan Sinha had joined Samajwadi Pary last month. Pramod Krishnan is contesting as Congress candidate from Lucknow.
Congress President Rahul Gandhi, Union Minister Smruthi Irani, UPA chief Sonia Gandhi are the other VIP candidates who contest in fifth phase of polling. 14 constituencies in Uttar Pradesh, 12 in Rajastan, 7 in West Bengal and Madhya Pradesh, 5 in Bihar, 4 in Jharkhand and 2 constituencies in Jammu and Kashmir are moving to polling booths today.
