New Delhi: Thirty four nurses from Bharat, who were detained in Kuwait have been released. The jailed nurses included nineteen nurses from Kerala. They were arrested by Kuwaiti authorities for lack of required documents.
The intervention of Minister of State, V Muraleedharan, was instrumental in their release. The health workers were in jail in Kuwait for the past 23 days.
V Muraleedharan thanked the Kuwaiti authorities for accepting the request of Bharat and taking a humanitarian consideration in the issue, which finally led to their release. In a facebook post, Muraleedharan said that Narendra Modi government is committed to the safety and well being of the citizens of Bharat, where ever they are in the world.
Muraleedharan said that the nurses were detained because they did not have required documents. He said that the External Affairs Ministry had earlier made arrangements for feeding mothers among the detained nurses to take care of their infants.
The nurses and medical staff were detained in Kuwait on 12th September.
