Brave BJP Yuva Morcha activist will not say “sorry” to Mamata: Says she was ill treated in jail

Kolkata: In a strong defiance against the undemocratic rule of West Bengal Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee, the BJYM youth who was arrested said that she will not say sorry to Mamata as directed by the Supreme Court.

The BJP youth wing member, Priyanka Sharma said, “I will not apologize for it. I will fight the case because I have not done anything wrong.”

Priyanka Sharma was arrested for sharing a meme of Mamata Banerjee in social media and was sent to two weeks in judicial custody for sharing a morphed photo of Mamata. The national leadership of the BJP stood strongly behind her and took the case to the Supreme Court to get justice for Priyanka.

The Supreme Court ordered her release and had asked her to write an apology to Mamata Banerjee for sharing the meme. However, the apology was not a pre-condition for her release.

Even after the apex court’s order the jail authorities did not release Priyanka Sharma. Taking note of Priyanka’s advocate who informed the court that her release was being delayed the Supreme Court pulled up West Bengal government for this action. The apex court said that if she was not released the court will move contempt of court against Mamata Banerjee’s government.

This ultimately resulted in Priyanka Sharma walking free from prison. On her release she said that jail authorities had tortured her. She was pushed and given sub-standard food to eat.

She also contended that even though the court had directed her to tender a written sorry after release, she was “forcefully” made to sign an apology letter by the authorities before releasing her.

Priyanka Sharma said, “I insisted them to let me talk to my family and advocate first, but they did not pay heed to it.”

The BJP activist also said,”If anyone says anything about TMC, will they beat them every time? This is not justice. Police forces have been bought by the TMC government.”

The apex court had said today that it will hear Priyanka’s plea seeking action against West Bengal police in the first week of July.

Mamata Banerjee’s undemocratic rule is making her highly unpopular in West Bengal. Yesterday her supporters unleashed violence on the streets of Kolkata to disrupt a massive rally led by Amit Shah. Sticks were thrown at the vehicle he was travelling and many boards and posters of BJP was vandalized by TMC goons.
