Kolkata: Election Commission has curtailed the time for campaign to 10 pm tonight in West Bengal, a day before its scheduled deadline, in the wake of violence. EC invoked Article 324 of the Constitution to cut short the deadline.
As per the order of Election Commission, the deadline of campaign is at 10 pm tonight and tomorrow and day after tomorrow will be for silent campaign. Security in the constituencies is strengthened.
Meantime, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamta Banerjee fiercely criticised the Election Commission for curtailing time for campaign. She alleged that “Article 324 is unprecedented, unconstitutional, unethical. Never seen this type of Election Commission, it’s full of RSS people.”
On Tuesday, Trinamool workers had unleashed violence against Amit Shah’s rally. Election Commission’s order to cut short campaigning time came after the violence.
