Jammu and Kashmir: In a significant move to enhance women’s representation in the state police, Jammu and Kashmir is raising two women police battalions. This ground-breaking initiative not only paves the way for gender equality but also strengthens the force, diversifying its capabilities.
Director General of Jammu and Kashmir Police, Dilbagh Singh, announced this progressive move, stating, “Around 1,000 women officers will be strategically stationed across the UT OF Jammu and Kashmir. The deployment plan includes a significant presence of the battalions in different districts of Jammu and Kashmir. The move aims to address gender-specific concerns while enhancing security measures for women in different districts, contributing significantly to community policing,” he said.
Presently, female officers have completed an extensive training programme, spanning over five months, at Sher-i-Kashmir Police Academy at Udhampur at and Armed Police Training Centre, Kathua. Their training regimen included physical fitness routines, self-defence training, and a comprehensive grasp of the legal framework.
Furthermore, women personnel will be integrated into the security infrastructure, actively engaging in diverse facets of police operations, all with a shared focus on enhancing the welfare of the community.
