Sriharikota: The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) successfully executed the test flight for the Gaganyaan project on Saturday. This accomplishment came after the initial test flight had to be aborted at 8:45 am due to an engine ignition issue.
Earlier in the day, ISRO temporarily postponed the launch of the first uncrewed test flight (TV-D1 Flight Test) as part of the Gaganyaan Mission. The space agency promptly identified and rectified the errors, rescheduling the second launch for 10:00 a.m. on the same day.
The test flight abort mission primarily aimed to showcase the performance of the Crew Escape System, a crucial component of the Gaganyaan mission. The abort missions are meant to test the systems that can help the crew escape from the spacecraft mid-flight incase of a failure.
This achievement signifies a significant step forward in India’s endeavours to demonstrate its capability to send humans into space.
The Gaganyaan project aspires to demonstrate India’s capabilities in human spaceflight by launching a three-member crew into a 400-kilometre orbit for a 3-day mission, ensuring their safe return to Earth by landing in Indian waters.
