New Delhi: Rahul Gandhi has realized that the end is near. His party has lost miserably in the Lok Sabha election and he could not even hold on to his own seat, Amethi, which he was representing since 2004.
In a press meet Rahul Gandhi conceded defeat to Smriti Irani, even before the counting was over. The BJP leader was leading with a margin of 30,000 and 13 more rounds of counting was left when Rahul Gandhi publically announced his defeat to the media.
The Congress leader has also offered to resign as the National President of Congress.
He wished Smriti Irani for her victory and said that the people of Amethi has decided in her favour and wished her success.
Rahul Gandhi also said that the election was between two ideologies, that of RSS-BJP and Congress. The people have decided to choose Narendra Modi as their Prime Minister and said that he accepts the verdict of the people.
Though, Rahul Gandhi is heading for a huge victory in Wayanad, his loss in Amethi has took out the sheen from it. The Congress President’s move to the Southern constituency was seen as an acceptance of defeat even before the battle had begun.
