Congress drama: Rahul Gandhi offers resignation but CWC rejects it outright

New Delhi: The Congress has announced that Rahul Gandhi offered his resignation at the Congress Working Committee meeting taking responsibility for the humiliating defeat in the Lok Sabha election. However, the CWC did not accept his resignation and also asked him to make changes to restructure the party.

The CWC unanimously rejected Rahul Gandhi’s resignation.

The Congress drama of resignation was predicted by most of the political experts as it was a family tradition of the party after every defeat. Whenever Rahul Gandhi’s leadership failed miserably the Congress leaders take it upon themselves to protect the Gandhi scion from taking any responsibility for the defeat.

Rahul Gandhi has become a liability to the Congress party. His leadership has cost the party dearly. Their continued poor performance has took out the sheen from the Congress as the only option against the power of BJP.

However, Congress party leaders know that the grand old party is propped up just by the strength of the Gandhi name. Once it is gone there would a strong scramble for the top post ending the unity of the party as a whole.

The leaders are ready to tolerate the immature leadership of Rahul Gandhi than face a uncertain future without a Gandhi at the top. The most they can consent is the elevation of Priyanka Gandhi to take on the reins of power.

Judging by her poor performance in the recent election campaign, Priyanka Gandhi is no match for Narendra Modi and the BJP.
